"I was looking for someone to work with me, creatively problem solve, and had the tools (literally and figuratively) to bring my dreams to life. I had so many ideas, some crazier than others, and together we went over details and designs, revisiting ideas as the project progressed. Jay was patient and flexible with me and my evolving designs. He has done extensive work on our home, including restoration of original double-hung windows, cabinet-making, bookshelf building, interior framing, dry-walling, lots of trim work, design and painting, and re-fitting antique doors into existing openings. Jay's expertise, creativity, humor and intelligence made this project so successful, and a whole lot of fun. I can't say enough about the level of old-fashioned quality craftsmanship and design expertise he brings to the table. He knows every trick in the book about woodworking, cabinet-making, trim, etc. The difference is in the details." Naomi, Historic Tucson Barrio, 2015
_________________________________________________________________________ "Jay did wonderful work for me in 2009, rebuilding from scratch my historic "barn style" sliding garage door. It was aesthetically pleasing, as well as being a fine quality structure. When I needed a structural beam reinforced in my house 8 years later, I knew immediately that Jay would be excellent for this task. His depth of experience and strong work ethic are highly recommended for work of this nature and beyond." Keri, University Neighborhood, Tucson, 2009-2016
"Jay has done many projects for my wife Ann and me. Several are represented in his pictures here. I first found Jay when we needed to replace several areas of wood rot in our 80 year-old home. This required engineering and fine carpentry skills. The original plan, to simply replace wood that had lost its structural integrity, was expanded to improve the original construction work to prevent the same defects from compromising the restoration work and other vulnerable areas. It's been over ten years since that job was completed and everything still looks new. The other person I interviewed for the job quoted a higher rate, but I can't imagine any other work providing such value. Another big job was a fairly comprehensive reconstruction of the roof on our house. We had to evolve a plan together to solve some complex draining problems in the most functional and economical way. We collaborated on the concept, but the execution was all managed by Jay and it was a marvel of creative design and meticulous construction. Like another smaller roof job he did, anyone can see that the end product is bulletproof. There are pictures of the office furniture Jay made me, but they don't really do the pieces justice. One is a multi-function, rolling file cabinet which also serves as book storage and expanded working surface area. The other is a computer workstation/desk with a lower shelf for storage; the shelf is recessed, so you can comfortably sit with your legs under the desk. They both have a solid, straightforward and functional vibe that I really like, and the lustrous cherry wood gives me energy every time I sit down or just walk by. Jay really outdid himself with his latest work though. The living room in our house was a space we just never used. I decided to set up a home office there and the obvious priority was to address the fireplace that dominates the room. Jay came up with an elegant design that, while understated, has a strong presence, is perfectly proportioned, and unites all of the other elements of the room. It's a masterpiece. Jay is a solid engineer, and understands how to incorporate other materials and specialists into his woodworking projects when expedient or necessary. His workmanship is careful, meticulous and impeccable. He tosses in his sleep and redoes work with which he's not completely content. He has a keen, informed eye for design, with balance and a truly creative flair. When we've been away, Jay has watched over our house and pets, and I'm certain anyone else could trust him the way Ann and I do." Adrian Hall, Tucson, 2006-2016
